We have a minor dilemma. I've basically taken yoshimi 0.058.1 and added Paul's
Unison feature plus jack session support. Nothing too adventurous this time.
That's currently known as 0.060-pre5.
So far, there's just two people testing the jack session handling - it works for
one, but not the other. I could really use a third tester to help establish if
the problem still lies within yoshimi.

gentoo 64bit, fluxbox WM, jack 0.119.0.
There is,allegedly, jack-session support in qjackctl, but at the
moment, this version of Yoshimi doesn't show up in the qjackctl
session panel as a client. This may well be something i'm not doing
right here, so don't panic.
(I may try and find Torben's pyjacksm, and install that to cross-check)
I shall experiment some more this evening.

I too have had no probs using JS with yoshimi and qjack - its
pyjacksm, jack1 svn and yoshimi that seems to be problematic for me
under debuntu 64. I have sessions fail to load that involve just A3
and yoshimi when saved with pyjacksm. Please try this combo of apps
with JACK 1 SVN or JACK2 but I personally am more interested in JACK1
as it is reportedly more stable and xrun-packed than JACK2. I haven't
actually done any real testing with JACK2 yet but that was the case
last I asked Torben about this and so I just took his word for it.

Lovely to hear JACK1 is better than ever but I was told that JACK2
would support SMP better than JACK1. Would better SMP support in J2
lead to more efficient handling and processing wrt plugins ie LADSPA's
or maybe even the ability to squeeze more tracks out of your hardware?
If not, why JACK2?

On the jack site, under documentation, there's some links to
academic papers regarding jack2. You may also find some on
the wiki.
Long story short:
If you're running ONE Jack app -- no difference.
If you're running multiple Jack apps with somewhat
independent audio chains -- you can get parallel
processing between the the applications. To take advantage
of all 4 cores you would need to be running four apps (e.g.
Ardour + Hydrogen + a synth + another synth).
Strictly speaking, this has nothing to do with plugins.
Plugins happen inside the application and Jack has nothing
to do with them.

there is an experimental branch of jack2 that provides parallelization
even when the data flow is not parallel. it has not been released.

Odd to hear that about JACK2. My experience was I couldn't get JACK1 to
run here on my main laptop, but JACK2 does fine.
xrun-packed? JACK1 on my musicbox laptop with RT kernel gets them. So
does JACK2 on main laptop without RT kernel. Both at roughly the same
rate. I'm using a USB soundcard, so I suspect the xrun problem is more
related to using a USB soundcard than the version of JACK.
FWIW, they both seem to be quite stable to me.

pyjacksm is where it gets interesting - for me it works, but for Dan (allcoms)
it doesn't.

Sounds like the setup of $HOME/.config/yoshimi/ still needs work. Saving
session state from yoshimi via menu etc is unrelated to jack session support.
The Save Session thing allows you to reload a given configuration via a
command line param - it doesn't deal with audio/midi connections in any way.
Jack session save/load does similar/related things, but it doesn't go to
the yoshimi.state file. The jack session manager dictates where the app
should store the session data.
The jack session stuff in qjackctl works though. I

That doesn't sound right either. Loading a session should bring up the
relevant app(s) as well as restoring their connections.

I checked it out with jack2 svn on debian/sid, but first I have to solve
a issue with the build. Yoshimi try to build a AMD 64 binary
( -march=athlon64 -m64) but I run a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
on 32 bit.
Anyway, After solved that (by edit CMakeCache.txt) I could build and
run yoshimi, save and load session with qjackctl (svn) including
connections. I noticed some time before on tests with my own project
that the install path must be in $path, so check if the one User for
witch it don't work have really install the new version or try to run it
from src. I that case he need to add the path/to/yoshimi to the
command-line in session.xml to make it work.

(svn) including
connections. I noticed some time before on tests with my own project
that the install path must be in $path, so check if the one User for
witch it don't work have really install the new version or try to run it
from src. I that case he need to add the path/to/yoshimi to the
command-line in session.xml to make it work.
A very good point! I do hope it's something as simple as that, but I'll
bet it isn't.

a issue with the build. Yoshimi try to build a AMD 64 binary
( -march=athlon64 -m64) but I run a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
