Hello. I have read the recent discussion on "one sample per track"
arrangers such as Future Beat and Acid Music.
I have tested Future Beat which is quite a limited software.
Future Beat is an application where each track has one sample
looped infinitely and where user may uncover the audio by
drawing regions on the tracks. User cannot relocate the starts
of the samples as in Acid. Sample starts at 0 and is repeated,
as far as I know, at the next beat mark after the sample has
ended.
That kind of software is good because I don't have to worry about
the sync between all samples. But there is a problem: I'm not
sure what really is the correct sync between all the samples.
I have taken samples from "www.mountedbythegods.com", at download
page. Look at the partial file listing below: does jungle_1 go
wrong with respect to drum_1? See figure:

The Mounted by the Gods sample set has 55 samples. A few of them
are not loops but individual sounds which should be played with
a software sampler.
So, what Linux arranger I could use for assembling the remixes?
It can be a full blown multitrack editor but it has to have
some support for handling the beat oriented samples.
What software sampler would allow me to synthesize with
samples such as "brr_2.wav" and "digeri_2.wav"? I don't have
MIDI keyboard but a MIDI sampler is okay as well if there is
a way to send MIDI data from a sequencer to the sampler.
What sequencer I could use?
Please let me know if you try out the Mounted by the Gods samples
and loops. I would like to hear if you arrange something which is
better than I ever could do. (Check also www.yello.ch for their
Soundstation -- another sample set.)

The latest incarnation of terminatorX has support for the alsa midi
sequencer so you can trigger samples. I haven't tested that yet though.
I have been using it to play live without problems. It gives me a lot of
freedom for making improvised sets but also I can play polished and
practiced too.
Last night I was using two alsaplayers for samples and ams to fuck with
the sounds. It was a very relaxing evening.
ssm also has quite advanced midi sequencing capabilities but it has lost
jack support for me recently so I haven't been using it as much as I
want to. I really want to get the spiralloops plugin up live as it has
now got massive sample hold features.

The cvs version should be fine - I've been using it recently with jack
with no problems. I think the last release has problems with recent versions
of jack though, so I need to get a release done to fix this.

I'm not sure, if I quite understand what you mean. First: I guess,
when you talk about "syncing" samples (loops), you want to get their
beats, their musical tempo to match, right? Then the length is not as
interesting as how many beats are in there. If those are loops around
the popular 120 bpm in tempo, then a 2 second loop is one bar.
Probably the 3-seconds loops, supposed they are also one bar, are in
another, slower tempo, so you won't get them to match musically
without timestretching or cutting them into single beats.

I'd suggest to take a look at Soundtracker or Cheesetracker.

Every software sampler can synthesize samples, of course. Otherwise it
wouldn't be a sampler ;)
A tracker software allows you to arrange samples in musical time. Both
above also let you edit the samples, but for higher quality time
stretching you better use a soundfile editor like Snd, Sweep (very
good at loops) or Audacity.
Then of course there is Ardour, which also has advanced editing and
arranging capabilities, but it's a moving target and one should
probably wait for the first binary release (which isn't that far
anymore)
Personally I use selfmade composing aids done inside Pd.

Hi,
You can *try* my program and take a shot at it. It will more or less do
what you want to do (sort of). However it is very much a WIP and you are
most likely not going to succeed in getting it working.
It has a stacking sample player which you can tune to adjust the
playback speed of the loop, but it does not work how you want it to do
most likely. It is a very very simple toy to make weird sounds for Tekno
music. I rarely use it straight but I plug it through all sorts of
LADSPA plugins and make bizarre noises with it.
The program will also sequence out on ALSA, so you could say take your
samples, put them into Sound Font format, load them into your Sound
Blaster and use the program to sequence out to it and trigger them. I
will explain to you how to do this if through a bizarre happenstance you
actually get the program to work.
But I am only offering it as a suggestion, it will most likely not
compile for you, and it would be alot of work to get it working most
likely.

but the 'absolute' is the 1st priority for me
since i wanna do the micro-tuned music
the rebuilt kernel2.4.20 @ Slack8.1 didn't give me the message

without the warnings
sould i simply get rid of Slack9D1 and go back to
