Here's a little video I recently made. The video sequencing was done with
Imagination; background track with MMA; audio mix Audacity (all on linux).
Only the actual recording was not on Linux ... direct to a digital recorder
connected to my mixer.
Hope you all enjoy. Sort of sentimental for today's audiences ... but I
love old show tunes :)

Hi Bob!
Hm, that one is too sweet sounding for me. It has a simplicity, that doesn't
allow compare with the romantic epoche, but the feeling compares. :-)
Since I can't see it: What is the instrument you used? That does interest me
greatly. :-)

It's an EWI .... sorta like a electronic clarinet or sax (but NOT!).

It's a MIDI wind controller. They work out of the box on Linux, no
special drivers needed (USB MIDI device). I've got one, too, they are
a lot of fun.

Actually there are 2 different types. EWI 4000s (which I have) and EWI USB
(which I assume Brent has). The USB model has no internal voices, it is
strictly as midi controller. The 4000s has builtin modulators and doesn't
need a synth, although it can use one. The video I made was with the
internal voices of my EWI.

Yes, mine is the USB model, for controlling samplers and synths on my
computer. I have a similar device for bagpipes also called 'e-pipes'.

Whatever's at hand... I have a huge library of samples (Kontakt &
PLAY) that I store on an external Windows machine. Normally I just
record the MIDI into Rosegarden or Muse and then use that to playback
the samples for recording into Ardour. I don't use it for live
performance. I'm not a very good woodwind player so I haven't used it
a whole lot yet. :-)

Just out of curiosity, why are you using Kontact rather than
Linuxsampler? I haven't had a chance to compare sound quality
side-by-side, but have used Kontact on a Windows 64 bit machine, and
Linuxsampler on a 64 bit Fedora machine, and the Kontact/Windows
combination seems like such a resource hog in comparison, even when
using the same .GIG files.

Been running Kontakt and EWQL Play for a few years now and have
invested a good bit of money into the libraries... a lot of stuff
won't work under LinuxSampler, AFAIK, and I don't think there is a way
to convert the libraries, especially the scripted Kontakt libraries.

I have a Yamaha WX5 (from 8 years ago) and an AKAI EWI USB (just from a
month ago). Because I was not satisfied with the usability of the WX5 I
want to change to the EWI. I think that I can improve my level of
performance (after lots of hours of rehearsal, of course), and after
stuying with detail the instrument: 'delay' parameter for avoiding
glitches, alternate fingerings (I play with saxophone fingering)... at
the moment I rid of pitch bend, because I found difficult to be in tune.
Changing from a saxophone to the EWI is not immediate.
I'm developing a project and if
all goes well I will play it on stage, so to have confidence with the
instrument and to feel comfortable is the most. I will play the EWI USB
and not the standard saxophone because a part of music, the project is
about controlling visual effects and triggering sounds.

Hi Bob!
Ah OK, now I do understand. I automatically assumed, that EWI would be some
sort of software synth or bank. :-) That clears up everything. These electric
things are interesting.
