Hello
I have two Presonus FireStudio Live firewire interfaces working in
daisy-chain mode for a total of 16 channel pre-amped inputs and they are
working great :-)
I am however sometimes running short on channels and thought it might be
worth looking into adding a cheaper interface, such as the Behringer
ADA8200 Ultragain, and hook that up to one the the Presonus interfaces
through ADAT to ensure full sample synchronization.
I have not been able find anything information on how/if this kind of
setup would work on linux and the ffado website seem particularly sparse
with information these days.
Does anybody have a similar setup and can share some insights into what
works and what doesn't - then it would be much appreciated :-)
In particular I would be interested to know how/if the extra channel
from the ADAT interface would show up in jack?

That should work as expected. The Behringer ADA8200 Ultragain is a great
device, and I see its unconfigurability as an advantage. In fact I
swapped one of two firefaces (UFX+800) for an ADA8200 because the many
ways to configure this setup wrong were endless.

Aren't they showing up in Jack already? With the interfaces I use, the
channel assignments are fixed even without ADAT synchronisation. The
numbers may differ when switching between 48kHz and 96kHz though since
then channels are getting bundled. The ADA8200 probably would not do
that.

After fiddling even more around in the user manual I found out that the
Presonus FireStudio Project interface doesn't even have ADAT, so my
problem sort-of went away on its own (replaced by a different one
though; how to get extra channels).

Ah, the kind of problem going away that nobody wants apart from GUI
designers. It can probably synchronize via S/PDIF but that does not
really seem to buy you a lot.

Thank you for your feeback both of you. After fiddling even more
around in the user manual I found out that the Presonus FireStudio
Project interface doesn't even have ADAT, so my problem sort-of went
away on its own (replaced by a different one though; how to get extra
channels).

I did run three Presonus Firepod 10 cards simultaneously some years ago.
Worked just fine, You could search for another firestudio live second hand.
Firewire stuff tends to be quite cheap nowdays.

I thought you were running two cards and needed more channels so my
suggestion was add a third card.
The firewire bus can handle max 54 channels/streams if I remember correctly
and if 3 firestudios does not exceed 54 channels you would have a solution.
Also latency would be consistent through all channels.
