I am eventually going to get a new computer and was wondering if this was a good sound card? Is there a better sound card around the same price or less? Any help is much appreciated.

Quite a few people here have them and like them. I've got the gina 3g and i'm very happy with it. I could do with more ins and less outs, but it's good, feels really solid and is stable. Using it for gaming under windoze is little bit of an arse but once you get it setup it's fine. Mic and guitar/hi-z together is handy. Decent for DIing a bass or acoustic pickup. Loki

I have the Echo 3G and it has worked well. I've only recorded/played back 4 channels simul - I haven't done anything fancy. But, it seems to work as advertised. I haven't tested their advertised specs. -- Brad Fuller

It seems like the interrupts aren't going through for some reason. IRQ 16 is also used by a Silicon Image SATA interface (sata_sil24), and two nVidia 8800GT video cards, and there doesn't seem to be much I can do about that. There are two PCI slots, but one is blocked by a video card cooler. I could try removing the offending video card and see if the Layla DSP card works in that PCI slot... having used echo cards for the past half decade, ive seen this error a number of times . on about 30% of fresh installs espescially when going minimalist/DIY ie LFS but not in the last year or so. try symlinking /lib/firmware to /usr/lib/firmware and make sure the file is there, the error is a bit obtuse

Thanks, but my firmware was already in /lib/firmware, as installed by the Gentoo alsa-firmware-1.0.17 ebuild. I symlinked the other way around, but that didn't make any difference. Still getting the same error as above, except for different .fw files, obviously.
