Hi List,
My system (with ubuntu 14.04) is loading the hdsp firmware for an RME
Multiface only 50% of the time on start up. It's like flipping a coin.
I've not been able to figure out how to fix it.
I've saved the dmesg printout from a successful boot (good) and an
unsuccessful (bad) here:

http://reverberant.com/tmp/dmesg_bad.txt
and the keyword to search for is "hammerfall".
I was having trouble with the NVidia driver some time back and perhaps
there's a conflict there but I don't know.
If anyone can help - please do!

hello,
the "bad" trace does not have any mention of the rme card being detected.
you could try to put it in another PCI slot if this is a pci card you are using.

I tried another slot (there are only 2 pci slots on the mother board),
but the same thing happens. It required about 3 boots to get the
firmware to load. I hope it's not a problem in the RME PCI card itself.
I was hoping it was a problem in the software...I'm still hoping it is!
Perhaps I'll need to contact an RME forum.

I tested another RME card's hardware, with another issue on Linux, than
the one you're experiencing, by installing FreeBSD and Windows XP. I
guess there's no FreeBSD driver for your card available, but you likely
know somebody with a Windows machine, to test your card.

express power management in the BIOS (there's an old post in lau
somewhere about this). Check to see if there is such an option in your
hardware...

Thanks folks. Forgot to mention it's a desktop. Will try changing slots
as Raphael suggests.
