Hi all,
I am in the process of considering a portable USB audio interface. Having
checked the alsa matrix, I am a bit at a loss what may be the best option.
Things I am looking for are as follows (they are listed in no particular
order):
1) USB interface
2) Preferrably USB 2.0 capable
3) Audio and MIDI capability
4) High fidelity (higher the better)
5) More inputs/outputs, the better
6) Preferrably has some preamp inputs
7) Obviously must be supported in Linux/Alsa
8) Price not an issue
Any ideas?

I think they have that, it's called "PCMCIA" and I completely forgot
about it when posting my last message ;-)

The mona or layla24 would destroy all compeditors for all listed
things apart from being usb, and if battery only power is required. It

I think they have that, it's called "PCMCIA" and I completely forgot

If we are talking about PCMCIA already, I'd suggest Echo Indigo I/O (I
have one, works like a charm) as a small 2x2 interface or RME
Multiface as a full-scale solution (I want one :).

This could change however: With Intel pushing "hda" audio and also
with Via having rather good ICE-chips, the chips are there, now the
laptop manufacturers only need to follow and design systems with
proper isolation etc. I guess, it won't take long before the first
laptops with decent built-in audio performance show up. The market is
getting more competitive each day and I'm sure, a feature like
highquality audio will become important quite soon.

laptop manufacturers only need to follow and design systems with
proper isolation etc.
The latter one seems to be the prob. My Dell notebook even disturbs USB
audio.

Are FireWire (IEEE-1394) audio interfaces supported by ALSA? If the
answer is *no* then do USB 2.0 audio interfaces make use of full speed?
