RedHat has an autoclean process that runs every 10 minutes and removes
kernel modules that have not been used for a while.

Cool - thanks for the response. This is Slack 9.0 and I wrote the
modules.conf file according to the ALSA docs. I added that line and will
see if it works after the next module reload.
