Hi list - i have an installation that's been running for a week and has
suddenly failed.
Uses ubuntu 11.10 and a hdsp/multiface setup. What is happening is Jack
is failing to start
There is a "D-BUS: JACK server could not be started" error when QjackCtl
is launched and within the messages window there are the following
errors/messages:
12:27:20.152 Patchbay activated.
12:27:20.155 Statistics reset.
12:27:20.166 ALSA connection change.
12:27:20.174 D-BUS: Service is available (org.jackaudio.service aka
jackdbus).
12:27:20.261 D-BUS: JACK server could not be started. Sorry
Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
Cannot connect to server socket
jack server is not running or cannot be started
Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
Cannot connect to server socket
jack server is not running or cannot be started

Does jack start when you change the "Enable D-Bus interface" option?
QjackCtl > Setup... > Misc > [ ] Enable D-Bus interface

and there we have the "root" of your problem. first thing to try is to
start varying the parameters and see if anything makes a different (period
size being the obvious one, but also sample rate).

Thank you - you may well be correct about the dumbness - although I had
thought that realtime was enabled - perhaps the tech at the show moved
some values trying to fix the problem- The hdspConf had indeed been
moved from 96k to 48 - no idea how or why and this was certainly causing
problems. Thanks for the responses - it is running and i'll take it back
to the show - which unfortunately has no internet installed.

When I first got my Multiface2 I couldn't start jackd at 44.1kHz because
the clock in the device was running 48kHz. Now it just adapts to whatever
settings I throw at it, no idea what changed in the meantime though...
