Hi all,
I'm running Mandrake 9.1 with multimedia kernel and applications that
come mostly from thacs RPMS.
I have just download jack 0.80.0, qjackctl (great tool !!) and when
starting jack with -R option I get the error message : "cannot lock down
memory for RT thread".
Even with this error rosegarden work fine when using only the wavetable
synth of my sblive (no xruns, even under KDE, switching windows or doing
other nasty things that usually cause xruns).
The problem is that I cannot connect softsynth to jack (I get the same
RT thread error), I have tried with ams --jack and zynaddsubfx.
I have seen on list archive several users having the same problems but
no clear answer on the reason of the problem ....

-d hw:0 -r 48000 -p 1024
Mandrake multimedia kernel have (should have) capabilities enable ...
You might want to check that - not being able to lock down the memory is
most likly because you dont have permission.

I don't think it's a hardware problem, I have 256MB, it should be enough.
Can it be caused by the temp files used by jack or by the shared memory
file system shmfs. I have had problem mounted it last time and I wonder
if I don't need to have jack install after having the correct
shmfs support.

Good thought - along those lines, Linux may not be recognizing all his
memory - I've been reading about that happening. what is the command?
"free" I think it is, at least in Red Hat, to see if all the memory's being
detected...I haven't learned yet what to do if it's not (I'm new to Linux)

As a pointer then, try running 'top' and then looking at the top of that
screen.
