Dear all,
I am an absolute audio noob, not so much with Linux in general...
I am about to take over audio recording of speeches, which is currently
done via a Yamaha mg166c-usb, and WaveLab on a Windows machine.
As I won't have access to that computer, I am thinking of using Audacity
on Linux.
My concern: How does Linux deal with the Mixer?
Has anyone run the USB-port with a Linux machine?

We quite recently had a thread here giving some pages were Linux support
for audio hardware is listed:

If the MG166c-usb is not listed on any of these pages and a yagooglebing
search for "yamaha mg166c-usb linux" doesn't turn up anything, chances
are slim that usb audio will work between the Yamaha and Linux,
especially since Yamaha has a history for requiring special drivers for
their audio hardware.

This mixer has a Texas Instruments audio interface which is class
compliant device so it should work with Linux. Report that it works:

Thanks to both Chris and Jeremy,
actually, the mixer is not in any of the pages you mentioned, Chris.
Also Google does not give much hope.
Though, the page you refer to, Jeremy, makes my expectations to go up a
bit again. Actually, the page talks about a different model of the MG
line, but I bet Yamaha uses the same microprocessor in the entire line.

Hi Jeremy,
I looked into the data sheet and was impressed. I am not used to find a
circuit diagram those days.
And yes, all the MG line shares that processor. Great news!
Also LinuxMAO.org seems to be a very good source.

Good to hear, then it's probably plug and play.
Also LinuxMAO.org seems to be a very good source.
Through the years they have created a vast Linux audio knowledge base so
if you know some French it can be worthwhile to skim their site every
now and then.
