Yeh, it's not so high quality audio. The recording is from the camera,
an inexpensive Samsung midiDV recorder, with the 16-bit audio option
selected. It's not an optimal audio setup.

... unlikely to get anything better from such a camera...
I'm starting to look into purchasing a new video recorder. Does anyone
have a recommendation in the US$200-300 range ?

I can recommend these cheap flashcams like Aiptek...I record dual-system with two of
'em and my desktop audio machine. Use a slate at the head and tail.
