This is my first attempt at using Ardour for a proper recording, largely
following Paul's presentation at LAC.

I especially like the guitar and vocal sounds.
The balance is good but overall seems a bit shy in the low end.
I could do with a touch more bass, but I'm a bassist so you
probably shouldn't listen to me :-)
Incidentally, it's a good solid song and the vocals are excellent.

sure how well it would work. :)

Ah, this is very valid information as you're not the only person to have
mentioned it. I usually mix it the way I really want it and then turn the
bass and drums down a tad. Perhaps I'll leave it alone in future. I think I
start to get bass-sensitive towards the end of long sessions. ;]

It's great to finally have the tools to produce my own music on. I only had to
wait 20 years! Glad you enjoyed it, there's more where that came from.

Though you might consider lowering or discarding the delay on voice and
replacing it by something else. I never liked delays on voices. But this is
my opinion, only.
And add some more bass too. The bass line is cool so you could put it a bit
more ahead, with a still dry sound. Should do some good to your song.
The drums are nice too, especially the snare sound. A bit more life in it
could not hurt though.
I'm curious to hear the v2.0 :))

This is a good confirmation that my first instincts were right. It's a rough
mix, so I haven't really worked on the DSP side of it too carefully yet. It's
hard to find reverbs that I like and my drum programming is probably a little
wooden, but I might get better with practice.

Yeah, so am I ;) I'm also interested to see how many tracks my little computer
can handle. I already need to move the ardour files to their own partition as
you can end up printing a lot of bytes this way.

I really like the song. I agree with Paul W - I think you need a
bit more bass. A couple of other suggestions:
slide the acoustic guitar a bit left and the vocals a bit right (or use
the TAP stereo echo set up for Haas effect on the guitar)
I would bring the vocal up a bit
the kick sounds kind of smeared - maybe try compressing it a bit
(assuming it's on a single track)

Cool, I'll give that a shot. I didn't really play with pannings very much,
except to realise that bringing the two channels of a stereo vocal closer to
the centre sharpens it up. I'll do that some more then.

The drums are on a stereo wav dump from Hydrogen. It means fixing it in the
patch set, but that's probably going to be fairly easy. ;)

After two years of essentially idiot-testing for DeMuDi, it's great to have
