Hi list
Again as last year we did a solstice EP release made almost entirely
with linux.
So without further ado I would like to share the latest EP from my band
Seed of Heresy recorded and mixed using Ardour on linux with the
exception of vocals and guitar tracking, which was done in another
studio using proprietary non-linux tools.
The EP is as last year released under Creative Commons
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC-BY-NC-SA)
license and is available in several formats on the website:
http://www.seedofheresy.com
The release was done on December 22nd 05:49 CET, 2015, which is the
exact time of winter solstice.
Again the drums were performed by myself.

And just in time to
accompany the black cloud, that settled on my mood this morning. :) Well played, the
parts, that I could distinguish. Is it customary to mix it like that? I've listened to
a few metal bands, which I'd say aren't too far from Seed Of Heresy, but I'm
far from being an expert. :)
The snare might have been all the better for a more defined transient and possibly some
more EQ'ing to raise the high frequencies. Otherwise it's like an understatement
of your drumming, which sounds good and on the dot!
Thanks for sharing, it's a good tradition. Please keep it up!

The mix is rather "dirty" and "dark" which is quite intentional. Our

has been to make it even more dirty than many other metal releases out
there in order to emphasize the rawness of the music.
A kind of "back to basics" philosophy one might say.
I agree that the snare could have been tweaked a bit more to the snappy
side, but unfrotunately we ran out of time and we couldn't keep the sun
from passing the solstice point :-p
I might do a "remix" in the coming weeks with some minor improvements.
Teaser: In the (hopefully) near future myself and André Nusser will be
releasing a single with our joint effort "Sigkill". And that will be
mixed in a much less dirty way than Seed of Heresy since it is of a much
more modern and technical nature.

Wow! I mean WOW!
Super cool EP, and thanks a lot for offering it for free! Quite
magnificent, actually.
I was deep into the scene (as a listener mainly) in the 90s and this
sounds better than most Darkthrone albums :)
You really must put more attention to the caring of your audio files:
Prefix the file name w/ the track number, and put that in the tags too
(any decent audio player allows tagging now) because right now only the
artist, song name and playtime (obviously) are available, this is simply
unacceptable, people will hate this, trust me. BTW, what is the name of
this opus? And on the web site, the other album, is this the same? Maybe
this is an elaborate plan to confuse the listener...? :)
Apart from that, I have no words to thank you enough for this release.
This is a REALLY good album, I love it, I put it again when it ended ;
You drumming is indeed /very/ impressive, this is very good... I like
how everything blends in, this is very melodic, very harmonic, very
dense. Rest assured I'm going to share this

Thank you very much for your feedback :-)
Regarding the tagging of our song; it is in fact quite deliberate that
we do not tag them with track numbers because we intentionally haven't
made a play order for them.
The same goes for the the (lack of) album titles.
As with the rest of our concept (using libre tools and releasing under a
CC license) it is a kind of experiment where we do not release albums as
such, but rather bundled singular songs that is not to be put into an
album context.
Taking this approach to an exptreme we would only release a single song
at a time three times a year or so... but I guess we'll get to that.
I know it is confusing to most people, but we our intention is that we
want to challenge the way people listen to/use music and put focus on
the singular compositions.
I hope this makes some kind of sense ;)

customers sewing, they unlikely will buy it.
