Has anyone got Thacs vstserver and libvst working on mandrake?
I have tried and tried to no avail. Wine is running and seems to fire up
the standard stuff like filemanager, windblows games, etc.
I suspect it's to do with libvst but don't know.
I'd really like to get this working as I have many vst plugins.

OK...I"M GOING TO KILL MYSELF~ Bloody great folder full of VST's and I
can't get the &&^%*((*) to work. (And that's NOT code I'm expressing)

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, added vst.so to every folder to every
server on the internet, I sat the box on its end and worshipped it...I
spread the blood of a freshly beheaded goat in a circle and chanted to
the great god of VST!!! WiNE is making me Whine!! Someone somewhere
must know where all the bits and pieces should go to make this work!
Does NOBODY love me anymore?? I like whales...I dont pick the wings
from butterflies. I even call mummy dearest on mum's day!
WINE is not whining...it works! I think its vstserver and some
dependency thingy...or maybee I should use a pig instead of a goat??
Please...I'm offering camels and small children! Take my wife, take mah
truck, take my stuff....just make it work, please, please, please,
please!!!

of vstserver. What I would recommend is you uninstall wine, download the
version of wine for vstserver (0.3.0), build that, build vstserver
(after adding your vst path variable), then vsti (and prolly the k_vst~
pd plugin which has much more functionality).

I am a long time mandrake user. Funnily I seldom have such problems... and I
tend to build a lot of stuff... It does happen but I find problems to be few
and far between...
Possibly debian is even better in this department but I do think Mandrake is
one of the distros at the top of the class.
That is my experience atleast.

I am a long time mandrake user. Funnily I seldom have such problems... and I
tend to build a lot of stuff... It does happen but I find problems to be few
and far between...
Possibly debian is even better in this department but I do think Mandrake is

Ok. I figured as much. I am not familiar with Pd although I have it on
my machine with the k_vst~ patch but I'm actually trying to get vst's to
run in Ardour or other LADSPA compliant apps. Supposedly your vst's are
meant to show up like LADSPA's when this is all configured properly.

New subject: [linux-audio-user] audio drop using alsaplayer with jack
Hi there,
I am trying to have a not too bad audio experience on my laptop,
which has a i8x0 audio chipset (snip). I have a 2.6.6-rc2 kernel,
preempt enable, without any patches, but with the Jack o Quinn realtime
module. I happened to use 3 different players on my former PC: rythmbox,
alsaplayer and xmms. But on my laptop, whenever I am doing cpu-intensive
or heavy disk related operations, there are big audio drops which are
quite annoying. Here is my configuration:
- rhythmbox: I don't do anything special to gstreamer, I think it
uses oss emulation. Totally unusable on my laptop :( drops, really bad
sound, gstreamer seems to have some nasty bugs. When I am doing
somehting like 'gst-launch sinesrc ! osssink', it doesn't sound like a
sine at all !
- xmms: with alsa plugin, it works, but it 'stops' working for a few
seconds when I am doing CPU and/or disk intensive operations ( example:
tar -xjf kernel-sources ). I've never managed to make the jack plugin work.
- alsaplayer with jack output plugin, jack launched with the -R
option. Jack doesn't complain about xruns, but still, alsaplayer still
stops, like xmms under the same conditions (the time counter stops for
around a second).
I was so desperate that I thought about a hardware problem in my
audio chipset, but it works perfectly on windows (re snip).
What should I do to avoid these really annoying audio drops under
linux ?

compiling and as always there are many quirky little things that I have
no idea how to fix the stop the show. And it's probably something
simple...Thac's RPM's rarely let me down and usually work right out of
