Hi all, I'm a newbie to linux. I've got a Delta 44
that I'm trying to run on RedHat 8.0 . As far as I
know I need the ALSA drivers, but I have no idea where
to begin installing all the necessary drivers and such
or how to do so. If any one is willing to help me
from the beginning it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm mostly interested in just using XMMS and Audion.

two places to start:
Planet CCRMA, which are Red Hat Packages of Alsa, Jack and other sound
apps, plusa lot of useful configuration information in an easy to
follow, step by step format:

Complete instructions for installing Alsa from scratch. There is a
script provided here which you can use to unpack and install all the
alsa drivers and utilities once you have downloaded the tarballs:

One hint, when you get things running, compile the
'envy24control' program in the tools tarball and use
that as your mixer.

New subject: [linux-audio-user] what card are people using w/a onboard wavetable synth???
Hi,
I've used awe32 and sb-live for there onboard synth capabilities.
What other cards does alsa support(well) the onboard synth?

Cards with OPL3 chips (but this has FM synthesis only) and with OPL4 chips
(2MB wavetable ROM, no instrument downloading).
The register interface of GUS/Trident/ymfpci chips is, in theory, known,
but nobody has written a MIDI driver yet.
