This is imho a bit problematic by itself and possibly even more so when audio is intermixed with a video. No idea how hard it is to extract audio from a container and later recombine audio/video into a container, but something like that might be necessary. Nicer would be 'real' replaygain, by which I mean the concept of just changing tags and adjusting the audio at playback time.
