Hi all!
Is there any way to "tear" the Ardour mixer away from the main Ardour
window? I can do View - Editor Mixer, but I can't separate it from
everything else.

What version are you using? I'm on 2.8 and the mixer is a completely separate window

places a single mixer strip on the left side of the main view.
