Hey,
does anyone know of a grid looper, either as soft- or hardware? I am
looking for a looper that organizes the loops in a grid, allowing one
loop to be active per column and activating all loops in a row with one
action.
Luppp¹ is doing pretty much what I am looking for but has some
drawbacks: mainly no Jack sync and no stereo.
Though Ableton Live seems to have a similar feature (not used it myself)
I want to use free software, of course,—or a hardware device.

Giada works for me just fine. I wonder what the difficulty is in making it
work?
But last I checked it was not as stable as it once was. But my check was
over a year ago - so hopefully this has changed.
I would not say it is exactly the same as Ableton or Bitwig, but depending
on what you need it might work for your needs.

It was some time ago, maybe i should try again. But i remember some
issues with using it. running wasn't the problem, but i didn't got how
to use it. I don't remember any details, but it was related to midi
somehow.
All in all: I love software which is intuitive to use, Giada wasn't from
my point of view. When i want to make music, i dont want to think about
workflows or something, i simply want to start.

Is it? Then I need to check it out …
I use Bitwig all the time (Linux Mint 17) and sometimes with the
Novation 8x8 grid Launchpad Mini, although I should get more into using
this. What is played using the loop clips can be recorded as a real
time performance into an Arranger timeline for further developments.

Not added. It's there since the beginning as far as I can tell. I
sometimes also use it with a 8x8 Novation Launchpad Mini grid. First
time was about a bit more than a year ago, with version 1.10 or so.

Agreed, the lack of JACK sync is not ideal, there is some talk about rework
in this area:

Re Stereo; the mono tracks can be panned to stereo in the mixer now (latest
Git),
but there is not (yet?) true stereo in the sense of loading stereo audio
content.

From my own experience I can tell you: If you want some
features, simply
file an issue. You will need some patience because there isn't
that much
free Dev-Time, but its worth ;)

You are right but in my experience this is the second step, the first
step beeing to see if anything exists already that matches the
requirements. ;)

Luppp has Jack-sync, but always master.
But you're right with stereo. And we're not aiming at that feature
currently.
However since some people have asked for it we could put it on the agenda?
