PS: What software and hardware do you use to make music?
Are you still using Linux software in addition to other software?

Answering Julien and Ralf, the only good piece of gear I managed to buy
at my local town was a roland ua 55 box, that unfortunately doesn't work
with Linux ( "yet" as is said somewhere I don't remember anymore ). And
that's the only thing that keeps me from using Linux on my projects. I
already thought about using Windows to record and Linux for everything
else, but without my sound card I loose the monitors, being left with my
laptop speakers.

Most Linux users also use non-free software for *something*, even if they
hold their nose while doing so. The world isn't perfect. Most of us would
rather be part of a helpful community than judge or exclude.
This is a good place to ask for help with your soundcard problems.

I have no issues using commercial/non-free software on Linux (Mixbus,
TVPaint, 3D-Coat, etc), it's having to use that other OS that makes me
want to hold my nose.... but you gotta do what you gotta do :-)

I don't know, perhaps you're right, however, I'm using FLOSS Linux
software only! I own hardware devices and I'm using those devices, e.g.
guitars, 19" reverb, but I don't use my iPad, my Atari ST, my C64 and I
don't have a Windows or Mac OS machine. The used software here
definitive is Linux only, in the form of FLOSS only.
All software is free as in beer (still free to donate, but not a must)
and I'm using no cracked software, I even don't now if there's cracked
software for Linux available.

I aspire to do what you are doing. I'm not there yet. Some areas of my
life are almost free of proprietary software. Others, like my job, are
not. Circumstances can make shedding proprietary systems difficult.
That's why my talk about audio production at Ohio Linux Fest focused on the
stuff that *didn't* go smoothly when I switched from Mac to Linux.

I've made a career out of avoiding Microsoft. I started programming
AT&T SysV machines in the early 80s and have been lucky enough to have
been able to focus on UNIX and Linux for the last 30 years or so.
I have no problem with using non-FLOSS software when necessary; I used to
have an NVidia video card in my studio machine, and never blinked at tainting
my kernel with their proprietary driver. I'm also a happy customer of
AATranslator, which I had no issue paying for (since it runs well under
WINE). I'm also happy to be an Ardour contributor.
My issues are always with companies that try to keep you in a stranglehold
with their locked-down tech. I'll never give a dime to Apple or MS.
I want people to make money off their efforts, but I don't want to have
it extorted from me.
