I don't think redhat 7.3 has alsa support at all. You would have to
build a new kernel that suports alsa sound. But I would not do that...
too much work.

Hi Shannon -
I think you need the development RPM's as well. On my
mandrake box, I need
"libalsa2-devel-0.9.0-0.8rc2mdk.i586.rpm" in order to
build anything which requires ALSA.
Try searching rpmfind or just google for alsa-devel or
libalsa-devel (or check the sources CD for Redhat if
you burned it).

Hi.. I've recently got my linux workstation
(redhat
7.3) up and running and most things are going pretty
well.
the problem i am having is with building
applications
that require libasound .. (gdam, seq24, but i'm
guessing there are many that require it).
from the little i've seen on
tldp.org it's something
to do with alsa - as far as i know i have installed
the also rpms.
other applications, like csound, run fine. snd
installed fine, but doesn't run, so i'm sondering
whether this is related.
any help appreciated..
