Hi,
I bought a new rme pcmcia card. hdsploader can't put the firmware on
the Multifaces (it reports an i/o error). I tried two different
Multifaces which both work fine with my pci cards and an old pcmcia
card and different cables with the same result.
the firmware revision of the not-working pcmcia is 32, the firmware of
my old pcmcia is 0a.
Can anybody, who has a working pcmcia card, send me the revision
number of his card if its higher than 0a?
(check the output of `lspci` for something like "0000:03:00.0
Multimedia audio controller: Xilinx Corporation RME Hammerfall DSP
(rev 0a)"
I will try to contact RME to find out whether I can downgrade my
pcmcia to a working revision.

orm, i have a rev 0b PCMCIA interface. its odd that them changing the
firmware would have this effect. i could understand it if the driver
said that it didn't recognize the device.

Hi,
just a quick update on the hdsp pcmcia: I went to the shop today: They
still had a couple of cards of the old design, manufactured after Nov
2004. The rev number is 0b and they work.
There was another card of the new design (also rev 32) which also
didn't work. Going up from 0b to 32 within a few months indicates
quite some development in the firmware which might be due to some
hardware change. On their website RME advertises some security means
applied to both pci and multiface to prevent unusability in case of
unfinished flash updates. Unfortunately there was no multiface II
(which apparently works with the new card) to test the old card with
the new multiface.

I got the same error with my pci and pcmcia card using the most recent
knoppix with kernel version 2.6.11. I downloaded the latest 2.6.13.1
from kernel.org today and it worked right away.
On my other working machines are 2.4.26 kernels IIRC.

My PCI adaptor is rev 32 as well, and it works with
the in-kernel firmware loader without any problems.
I guess this is PCMCIA specific then?

I will contact the hardware company which builds the RME hardware on
Monday about this issue. A revision number of 32 (which supposedly is
hex) seems unbelievably high. Maybe the pcmcia is not working properly
(I don't have a windows or Mac laptop to check).
I called the shop where I bought the card here in Berlin. They have 4
more interfaces of the old design. I will go there on Monday to check
their revision numbers and the functionality and will report back to
the list.

Never had any problems with loading firmware (hdsploader). It's 100%
firmware compatible with the original Multiface. It's not possible to
load firmware when the device already has been firmwared; you then
have to unplug it's power (either over PCI 1.09 or adapter) to make it
forget it's firmware. There should be a --force option.
