Hi,
a not entirely Linux related question. Has somebody ever used a powered
USB hub connected between a computer and an USB audio interface? I
wonder if this could cause issues.

Yes. With a raspberry pi version 1 and a m-audio fast track pro.
wonder if this could cause issues.
Don't know why it should. The USB bus topology is specifically designed
for this scenario.

I'll risk to buy an USB hub. The reason why I'm asking is, that USB not
necessarily is designed for audio and MIDI usage, at least USB MIDI
interfaces often don't provide galvanic isolation.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I have with a Raspberry Pi with a
USB WiFi adapter and a cheapy Behringer UCA222 USB audio interface
(which gets all its power via the USB connection). Both USB devices work
independently with the Pi but require a powered hub when used together.
This is my Squeezebox/spotify home stereo!

this is good news. At least two of you used such a solution. Too
bad that I can't get one at Christmas time.

Hi,
I am doing this on a raspi, works but since this audio Interface isnt the best i cant
really say something about quality issues. But i can try with an other Interface and tell
you then.

I seem to recall there was (at least a few years ago) problems
with mixing USB 1.1 and 2.0 on the same hub; I haven't checked
if they got resolved in the kernel. Otherwise, if everything
is the same USB speed, things should be OK (or better).
I've also found using a powered hub is beneficial if the USB
power from the motherboard is marginal, or if you need to run
longer distances (i.e. I put my tower as far away from me as
possible to avoid HDD and fan noise).
