yes, I'd be largely concerned with the interface, so a new controller could
be configured, or a new configuration put in place quickly to try out ideas.

I'd like to find something with a gui for configuration, that supports
multiple preset configs, multiple controllers, and wiimote support. Support
for as much of the midi spec as possible, but at least note on/off, program
changes, cc's, and multiple binds per button, or combination of buttons,
with events triggered on press, or release.
PD (specifically PD-extended) can do all of this if you're willing to put
the effort in. I'm not aware of a fully contained GUI based app under linux
for only this purpose - I assume you want something like OSCulator on the
mac?
