Hi
If you can recommend the best MIDI apps for each of the following
categories, that would be great. I'd like to play around with them since
I still learning about these things.
- Sequencer
- Notation
- Filter
- Drumloops
- Midiloops
- Synth
- Sampler

Okay, here's the current DLP Choices:
- Sequencer
Rosegarden, MusE, seq24
- Notation
LilyPond + NoteEdit
- Filter
See LADSPA plugins. Or do you mean filter as in "MIDI event filter" ?
- Drumloops
- Midiloops
maybe Sooper Looper ? I haven't tested it yet for MIDI capabilities.
- Synth
ZynAddSubFX, amSynth, AMS, various VSTi plugins... I also hear good
things about Om but haven't tried it yet.
- Sampler
Linuxsampler, Specimen
