Hi,
I have whole directory of speech recordings with different volume levels.
I'm newbie to Linux and wonder what apps are there to do batch volume
normalization/scaling ?

ecanormalize
comes with ecasound.

Though of coure you might have good reasons for using ecasound for
other purposes, if you don't want to install of of that there is a
little utility called normalize which does the job.

There's normalize:
http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~cvaill/normalize/
which does exactly what it says on the tin :)
