hi all
i've just killed lotsa brain cells by cutting and dividing two great
submissions to remix.linux (Turn Back the Tide by Blues LSD and ATT by
James Shuttleworth) into some sort of remix/mashup ... thought i'd get
the ball rolling - not sure what this is like as i've since lost all
critical faculties - let me know what you think.

i LOVE this.
i swear, when the organ and distorted guitar kick in ...
it sounds good this fast - even my voice ... this emphasised a lot of
the quirky good bits of the song, and even let me see it in a new light
... really wierd. you *energized* this ...

That's one way to look at it. I think I pushed it towards meaningless
pop trash, but there you go. I love the original.
man, what you did with the organ and guitar is
perfect! (btw - is that
my guitar with effects/filters, or is it zynaddsubfx?)
It's (almost) all you. The only parts that are not from the original
are the beat and the climbing synth that makes a short appearance
because I'm too lazy to do a crescendo/climax in any other way.
The awkward part was chopping out parts of the guitar and filling it
back in with reverb. Speeded up, and with my all too regular drum
pattern, your great guitar parts didn't want to fit. You'll notice
that there are only half the notes at the end of one particular guitar
sequence. It's a shame, because I like the sound of it in the
original.

No remix has cracked me up quite so much since 'Der Osten ist Rot' by Holger
Czukay. No, but seriously, wait, I'll play it again and try to make some
sensible comments.
I've had both the tracks on my playlist at home for a while, it's the
devil-may-care edits that do my head in most. The high pitched synth
percussion from ATT sounds slightly like digital clipping. I also find the
slight timing discrepancies between the two tracks somewhat disturbing.

the editing was the mind-fuck ... getting the ATT sounds in there and
doing what i wanted was pretty easy, cos i had the seperate tracks to
work with. but for "turn back the tide", i had to cut up and mess around
with the fully mixed track. the only guitar part i could really use was
the intro, which i had to cut and paste and rearrange to get rid of the
initial vocal which overlaps it. for the, erm, "chorus" bit ... well, i
had a definite sound in my head, but it proved near impossible to get :(
i didn't want to add too many sounds either.
i didn't use any of the percussion from ATT, though. couldn't get any of
james' beats to fit. the "digital clipping" is either FX1 or FX2 from
Hydrogen's Techno drumkit (ha ha ha).
I also find the
slight timing discrepancies between the two tracks
somewhat disturbing.

This remix site is a really cool idea and I like the two first remixes,
especially the Turn Back The Tide/ATT one. For me it has a experimental
touch, that I like very much. Hopefully I can also contribute something
sometime...
On a side remark, can somebody eventually provide the lyrics for the
Turn Back The Tide song? Being not a native speaker I have some problems
understanding all the words, particularly in the chorus.

if you go to the "People" part of the website, there should be a email
contact for the uploader (bearmusic, i'm pretty sure) ... maybe you
could request the lyrics that way. there are a few lines that i'm not
too sure of, either.
