The file .xsession has the same setup as .xinitrc, and as long as it
is readable and executable by gdm/xdm/kdm will be a valid session
choice as "user custom session" or some such. I just do a "ln -s
.xinitrc .xsession;chmod +rx .xsession" and that works just fine. If
you don't know how to set up an xinitrc just a single line saying
"wmaker" will work fine, since windowmaker has its own options to
invoke other programs for your session.

forget about Linux and use Windows. Is there any Linux
distro left that does not depend on all the *Kit crap ?

Well, before posting I did have WindowMaker installed,
I did have .xinitrc and .xsession which just contain
"wmaker". All of this is just ignored. I guess it's
one of the desktop *Kit things hijacking my machine.
There is no "Session" menu in GDM nor did I find a way
to have one.

GDM got re-written starting with 2.22, and FC10 is the first Fedora release with
the re-write. Possibly, this feature did not get re-implemented. 2.20 and
previous have it. (So, *why* did Fedora switch??)
Is there an entry for windowmaker in /etc/X11/sessions? Also, /etc/gdm/Xsession
should have a hook to ${HOME}/.xsession or ${HOME}/.Xsession.
Maybe you can downgrade to GDM 2.20.x. Or upgrade to KDM. :-)
