Does anyone have a recommendation for a alsa supported card with
decent mic pre's built in? Is an echo gina the only viable option?
I've heard the 1010lt has pretty terrible mic pre's. There seem to be
a few very cheap and nice looking aardvark cards on ebay with mic
pre's. Can't seem to find anyhting positive about alsa support and the
company is bust so guess it's not a priority. Any other options i
should look at? This just seems the cheapest/best way. Anyone with the
Mona/Gina/Layla 3g tell me about how the pre's sound? I have a griffin
imic now so i think getting outboard pre's and a decent mic probably
isn't the best option... unless i do something about the card.

To the best of my knowledge, the 1010lt has no preamps at all. I have
a 1010, which does not have preamps, and I believe the only difference
is that the lt uses an "octopus" connector on the back of the card for
its I/O rather than the patch panel provided by the 1010.
That said, before I got the 1010, I used a Delta 66 card with their
Omni I/O interface, and was very happy with the preamps in that. I
currently have a Behringer mixer that I use for mic preamps, and while
it's not the worst preamp I've used, it's not great and I'm hoping to
upgrade it soon.

Actually, the 1010lt and 1010 are pretty different cards. The 1010 was meant
as flagship with premium converters while the "lt" was designed as a chepaest
possible card with a lot of ins and outs. The really 1010lt has preamps
(pretty bad, IMHO) , though.

Gina 3G is very nice and well supported card with excellent sound. Echo makes
good stuff. I'm not sure if there is something comparable for the price.
Perhaps Presonus firebox, E-mu 1616 or Alesis IO|14, but except the former
one they are unsupported :(
