Hello,
After installing Gentoo Linux over RedHat, I find that my Delta44
playes sounds a about 1.5 semitones too fast!. Boot into windows,
and it goes back to normal. Not sure if I suspect ALSA drivers,
or the kernel, or what.
It is not user error, like sample rate probs or anything. XMMS,
aplay etc... all play content two fast, no matter what the soundfile,
or mp3.

Tobiah,
You've probably got your master clock rate set to 48KHz (the default)
instead of 44.1KHz. You can run the envy24control program (part of the
ALSA utilities or tools, I can't remember which) to set the clock rate.
You can also use alsamixer to set it if you don't have envy24control
built.

Sorry, I had to get some sleep. If you're using anything older than
ALSA 0.9rc6 you won't be able to change the rate unless you first switch
to S/PDIF In and then to something else. Even that won't work
sometimes.

Hi again -
A follow-up to my pervious note on no sound with jMax:
I have now tested jMax v. 4.0.x (actually BOTH 4.0 and
4.0.1) on 4 separate machines with the same results,
no sound. On all of these systems, sound is working
perfectly everywhere else, and all show signal within
the jMax patches (ie in a vu meter module).
So, is there anyone on this list who can confirm that
jMax (4.0.x in this case) does in fact make noise
under Linux with either ALSA, OSS, or JACK? If so,
can you please send along a working resource file
(none of the downloaded version posted elsewhere seem
to do the trick), or clues to getting jMax configured
properly.

SBLive! in ALSA with OSS emulation (Jack avaliable)

All planetCCRMA

4. inteli8x0 (Dell laptop)

Yes, jMax 4.01 and 4.02 output sound perfectly on my system. We're
running similar systems, the only thing I can guess is that you might
not be connecting jMax to the alsa_pcm_output. Are you using
qjackconnect or another JACK patch bay ?

looks very promising.
I have both qjackconnect and JACK patchbay installed,
but I have been trying to use straight ALSA if that is
possible. I'll test again this evening with JACK
loaded.
Otherwise, is there a way to specifically load the
alsa_pcm_ouput. Is their a flag or do I need a newer
.jmaxrc, etc (if so, can you send along yours)?

I built and installed jMax according to the instructions, but there's
no ~/.jmaxrc and my ~/.jmax directory is empty. Perhaps you should
rebuild without JACK support ?

This afternoon I got 4.0.2 to work on another machine
(with a Delta 1010), but (*sigh*) no sound yet here at
home...I did, however, get it to see audio devices in
both ALSA and JACK with 4.0.2. This is a step
forward, and I'll have some time to play with it a bit
more later in the week.
BTW: The src.rpm version actually builds/packages a
separate rpm, "jmax-jack" for adding jack support,
very nice.
