Hello,
I am looking for a good free soundfont to use with my SB Live! I've
been looking at the Hammersound page, but there are a lot of dead links,
and also several sfark files that may be good, but I don't think there
is a way to open sfark files under linux. Thanks for any suggestions
and links.

Indeed, there is no linux tool to open sfark in linux but the windows tools
actually work under Wine, they did a few months ago anyway :)
As for good fonts... the big ones are pretty good, perhaps best is Fluid3
(should be on hammersound), but that one is BiiiiiiiiG...
It seems the fluid dudes are trying to pull of "something", fluidfonts.com,
but the original fluid3 seems to be available elsewhere.

Well, the best drum kit i have heard is definitily http://www.nskit.com/
But please everyone -- be gentle with this guys server. These files are huge
and I feel kind of bad posting the link on a big mailing list. But, he did
make it public, so....

Regarding nskit: did someone here manage to merge all the single kits
into one single set as it is described on nskit.com for the Vienna
soundfont editor? I think, with Swami this could be possible, but I
never really used Swami...

Just began using Swami this week and I cleaned out some dead wood wave
samples from my favorite fonts, and discovered this app does a nice job
of splitting and merging soundfonts. Very nice program!
Finally, loading multiple soundfonts into fluidsynth and then importing
and merging the font banks in Rosegarden really makes using multiple
instrument voices from multiple soundfont sets a piece of cake, or as
some might say a Cakewalk.

I managed to combine all the peices into one large soundfont using swami. It
was pretty straightforward. I cannot speak for Vienna though.
