Hello -
I was wondering if someone could help me along with getting VST's running
under Linux.
I have installed the version of WINE from the vstserver download area. I
have also built vstserver and can in fact run it. Finally, I have built
ladspavst.
This is where I am stuck. The ladspavst README didn't have any info to help
figure out how to run it.
Building ladspavst made vst.so. What now?
What I would like to try is getting VST's running with Ardour. Is this
possible?
Also, do any VSTi's work with vstserver?

directory Ladspa plugins go (under Mandrake 9.1, it's
/usr/lib/ladspa) and then run your ladspa client app and see if
it's one of the available plugins.
Maybe you'd need to ldconfig after putting that file there, I
dunno. Haven't had any VST's to play with myself.

I was able to get an instance of the CamelPhat Free VST loaded this morning
in Ardour. All I had to do is put the vst.so file in /usr/lib/ladspa.
I'll do more testing with different VST's later.
Is anyone keeping a list of VST's that work with vstserver? Is that

I've run them in Snd with the ladspavst and
vstserver support, and in Pd
with the k_vst~ object.

i'm not a pd user so i'm probably doing something silly,
but i just get, eg:
k_vst~ Freeverb2.dll
... couldn't create
vstserver shows nothing.
could you maybe post a working pd file?

Copy this into a file named foo.pd:
#N canvas 588 282 450 300 10;
#X msg 56 45 opengui;
#X msg 147 46 closegui;
#X obj 147 120 k_vst~ NorthPole;
#X obj 211 78 adc~;
#X obj 215 160 dac~;
#X connect 0 0 2 0;
#X connect 1 0 2 0;
#X connect 2 1 4 0;
#X connect 2 2 4 1;
#X connect 3 0 2 1;
#X connect 3 1 2 2;
Replace "NorthPole" with the name of whatever plugin you want to try,
leaving off the extension. Then start the vstserver
('~/vstserver-0.2.7/vstserver') in its own window. In another xterm open
Pd. I start it like this:
pd -lib /home/dlphilp/k_vst~/k_vst~ -open
/home/dlphilp/my_pd_files/foo.pd

Note that I'm using the latest versions of WINE, vstserver, and k_vst~.

I was wondering if someone could help me along with
getting VST's running
under Linux.
i'm having the same problem unfortunately.
the only instructions i see are to
1-set VST_PATH environment variable to point to where your plugins are
eg: /usr/share/vst
2-launch vstserver from its directory
eg: cd /usr/lib/vst/; vstserver;
i have vstserver running but it just waits:
"VSTSERVER/main: Vstserver 0.2.6 started. Waiting for requests."
the vstserver 'exampleclient' works for me, but jack-rack, pd, and
ardour dont.
does anyone have it working? it would be nice to know what was
supposed to happen, and which clients are known to work.
i'm using thacs rpms:
libladspavst-0.1.2-5mdk
k_vst~-0.2.6-2mdk
vstserver-0.2.6-2mdk
libvst-devel-0.2.6-1mdk
libvst-0.2.6-1mdk

according to the pd k_vst~ readme, pd supports
midi note on/off, controllers, pitchbend, aftertouch, and
program change for vsti's!
i cant personally verify that :-)
