hi fellow linuxicians !
Is there any sequencer out there, that is able to control abstract musical
paramenters (simply numbers, so to speak :) for synth-systems like pd, beast
etc... there may be some fine midi sequencer, but sometimes note-on /offs on
a
32-grid just ain't enough to control something like grain-loop machine, or
whatever....
I'm having something in mind, what could be something like a OSC(open sound
control) sequencer...with programmable event/signal templates like /start or
/stop ... and nifty curve-based drawing tools, like those found in sequencer
with decent automation-handling (eg. logic,protools,...)
I'm just wondering if there's anything like that out there
or maybe a fitting (sequencer) develompent-library..

Pd (and jMax) is way more than a synth system. You can do lots of
sequencing stuff in Pd as well. There are some gui elements missing
yet, like a decent pianoroll. If you need that, then jMax might be
worth looking at. But Pd can control itself. More so than I can... ;)

It's got a hell of a purdy startup screen. Doesn't seem to like my athlon
though. I'll have to try it on my p4 or p3 later:

I didn't realize these guys were actually serious... Last time I looked at
Darwin for pc it was a tiny little 2 meg package that just sort of sat on your
hard drive and beamed "I am Darwin for pc... you have better things to do" at
you... sort of like one of those bobbly-headed dogs that sits on the dashboard
in your grandma's Ford only with a Mac apple logo on it. I thought it was still
a tiny 2 meg package.
They actually have a whole distribution put together... x86 install disks and
the whole bit. {Not that I've gotten it to install on anything yet.}
Here my mind is aflame with new dangerous visions of toppling MS's world
domination overnight by by giving OSX to the pc masses, who thought they were
doomed to run win XPzillion forever, and all you can say is "their shuttle is
tasteless"? :}

Seriously though, the two (IMO) most active Linux sequencer projects are Muse
and Rosegarden, and they are at the moment both locked into MIDI.
Probably, since you're already using pd, you might try to make use of
whatever the sequencer object in pd is (it's name escapes my at the moment -
I think it's "xeq"). My apologies if you already know about this.
Another approach would be the Common Music / Common Music Notation / Common
Lisp Music suite. CM is just begging for a nice portable front-end, and is
most certainly open-ended about the type of music events it deals with.
