Hey hey,
I have two M-Audio Delta 1010 soundcards. Currently my driver is built into
the kernel. Can I rely on the two cards not being swapped after reboots or can
I fix it, even though the driver is built into the kernel?
A pointer to meaningful documentation on that point will suffice. Thank you!

I haven't run 2 Deltas in a while, but I didn't have a problem with them
switching identifiers unless I was changing hardware on the system. The Deltas
can be connecded via their SPDIF ports to be in sync with each other; check

Thanks the two of you! From the ALSA article on multiple soundcards and
additional material from that point I figured everything out, that I needed.
I have read the guide by John Rigg, which was very helpful and the reason for
getting the second Delta.

On my machine the order after startup is always the same.
[rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
# ALSA module ordering
options snd slots=snd_hdspm,snd_ice1712,snd_ice1712
[rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ service rtirq status | grep ice
213 FF 80 - 120 0.0 S irq/20-snd_ice1
214 FF 79 - 119 0.0 S irq/21-snd_ice1
I suspect they are sorted by the IRQ at startup.
There's still an issue, it's not possible to automatically restore the
MIDI connections, since both cards have got the same MIDI name and when
using udev for unique names, only the audio names are changed.

There have been attempts to probe PCI devices in parallel, but this
always broke too many things. The order of PCI devices should always
be consistent.
