thank you for your answer, i was fearing something of the sort... i'm
recompiling muse without jack support [takes a while...] so that i can run
it without starting jack. any better ideas anyone?
Use a jack enabled MIDI playback synth (eg. fluidsynth, nee iiwusynth).
