When I want to listen to jazz via internet, I go to
one or the other of CJRT and KCSM (.pls I use below).
The signal level difference between the two streams is
what I'd call huge. CJRT high, KCSM low.
Could someone try these and let me know if you hear the
same difference? I don't think this could be in my
setup here.
Are there standards for what volume streams should have
when broadcasting? Is one of these streams faulty?
Of course, I can adjust my volume, but I'm real surprised
that I have to make a major adjustment. But everytime I
do I bugs me and get my curiosity stirred up. I hope one
of the pro's here can educate me on this.

I also hear a difference with KCSM being a touch lower than CJRT.
This is using windows XP and some crappy onboard soundcard+dell speakers.

A quick google didnt reveal of any standards for internet radio,
though obviously im not really in the know about these things.

I found the KCSM volume lower as well.
It may be that CJRT is EQing their broadcast.
BTW: my quick test was on a Windows machine with Winamp.

Sounds like CJRT has their preamp turned up too high.. there is a
fair bit of clipping at times.
KCSM sounds nice to me, maybe a bit on the low side compared to
studio compressed mp3s.. I would say CJRT is too loud (but I am
no expert at all).
Just as a matter of interest, how did you find KCSM? It doesn't
show up on Shoutcast, or on my program tunapie that connects to
shoutcast (plug.. plug...)

As far as I know Winamp queries the same server.. so it makes no
sense to me...
