The kernel seems to have preemptive patch already in it. Is the low
latency patch also needed then? Should you only include one or both?

Yep, 2.6.11 is available through unstable, but looks like sarge will
stick to 2.6.8 and I suspect that 2.6.11 is still being consolidated.
