I've some soundproblems on Ubuntu hardy.
1) Upgrade to Intrepid, if you can.
Hardy has been a problem for many people both with audio and with KDE/KDE
apps.
2) Read and follow the advice from my recent posts on this list:

I upgrade to Interpid and it's working better :)
It seems that our friend of Ubuntu didn't implement pulseaudio very well:
