I'm really enjoying RA.218 Peverelist (Bristol Dub-Tech Sound), more
than his acclaimed album release "Jarvik Mindstate"

How would one use Linux audio tools to produce tracks in the style of
the ones @ 43', 46' 51' and onward. How to sequence all the intricate
drum programs without worrying about the sun turning into a red-dwarf
due to the amazing amount of time it would take just to program a
minute of music (e.g.. @51:00)? Also at 35' "Joe -- Digest" is that
effect from a live drummers/conga players chopped up by something like
drumagog? Or is it just sampled congas sequenced? And what about
MIDI-beat synchronized audio effect plugins (e.g.. reverbs and echos).
Standard stuff with external efx equipment, what's the best and
easiest to use in Linux as a plugin w/ a sequencer like traktor?
(a supposed tracklist -- i don't like the beginning that much, but I'm
well liking it by 1/2 hr in).

I haven't had a listen to the music yet, but from your description I
imagine it is the kind of stuff best done on a tracker.
Open source implementations include
Schism tracker, cheesetracker, milkytracker and soundtracker (all
sample trackers only)
Neil sequencer (a bit more complicated to get to grips with, but
allows plugin synths and effects as well as samples).
Closed source/proprietarty:
Renoise - very nice program with lots of features - built in effects,
and use of LADSPA/ native VST effects, and a very clever way of
recording vocals/audio in realtime to new sample instruments, but with
the big downside of closed source/non-free..
My faves are Neil sequencer and Renoise.

The way the program works is you place "machines" (like plugins) on a
"canvas". These are then connected together in the sequence generator
-> (effect(s)) -> output. The generators can be linked to multiple
effects, and the relative output to each effect controlled with volume
sliders.
The standard generator machine is the Matilde Tracker, which is a
sample-based tracker. Then there are other generators that perform the
function of FM synthesis modules, "analogue" synth, SID (C64) emulator
etc. All are built into the program.
Notes are entered in the tracker interface (all generator machines
have roughly the same grid-based tracker view).
One other way where it diverts from traditional trackers is it is
possible to sequence tracks from each machine separately in a
song-view.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but after some perseverance, it is
probably one of the most flexible tracker-type programs available.
There are still a lot of bugs, but the main dev is very responsive to
bugreports, and posts code updates most days.

I've had this with a couple of apps; even though they're under
/usr/local, they still want to look under /usr for stuff.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled adding PREFIX=/usr to 'scons configure'
in libneil diretory, and 'scons install' in the neil directory (no
configuring to do in the latter).
It then finds all libs, but if SELinux is going, there's a half-dozen
errors about libs requireng text relocation. Once these are fixed, it
seems to work.

I agree about the audio output problems. It certainly is less than
ideal. However, it _should_ work with Jack. Start jack first and then
select the jack output in prefs. You have to manually set samplerate
to match.

JACK's existence or was trying to find it. Without JACK running it
appeared to be confused over the device name "(hw:0,0)," (yes extra
comma after parenthesis). The only GUI element that appears is in the
latter case, and is a dialog box telling me to check the audio
settings in the preferences. After clicking OK the program segfaults.
I'll try to post a bug report on their tracker.

I had this problem too, just now. After I closed firefox it went away.
Seems that if I had been watching a youtube vid or whatever, the sound
card was deemed "grabbed" by rtaudio.. strange.

Seq24 and Ingen sound like the tools for the job combined with
something like hydrogen. Ingen is the ultimate tool, Dave is a code
god. :)

Thanks for your endless curiosity, here some comments.
In fact How to write beats patterns is a Lilypond's transcription of
examples from the original article by Chris Mac Cormick:

At this time I started the 'G'igsaw and although it takes me 10 minutes
to do the transcription I was still wondering how to write velocities
inside the project. This question is obsolete now but not the thinking
of the article. That's the reason why I keep up this files.
However you could find the finished patterns in
Le-Puzzle-du-Batteur-HIP-HOP+RAP-et+BASES
of the 'G'igsaw's Bibliotheque.
pour-un-batteur-reel-3-4-BARS is a try of transcription (with a script)
from one BASE to a readable shift music for a real drummer. It's an
other part of the project. I only announce this on LinuxMAO in the hope
to have some advices or criticisms of drummers. Anyway I'll wait the
next stable release of Lilypond (2.14) to go further.

The congas sound like tr505 to me. It doesn't sound like it's a real
player, just individual samples.
And what about
MIDI-beat synchronized audio effect plugins (e.g.. reverbs and echos).
Standard stuff with external efx equipment, what's the best and
easiest to use in Linux as a plugin w/ a sequencer like traktor?
One of the things I haven't come across in my old FLOSS setup was tempo
synced delay. I used to apply all effects in ardour, though...
