Hi,
I seem to have an issue with USB soundcards on my laptop.
I have tried two of them, but I keep getting crackling sounds while
playing with Ardour or Hydrogen.
Everytime this crackling sounds occur, I get the following in dmesg:
ALSA urb.c:480: frame 5 active: -18
The Kernel is 2.6.39 with Irqthreads, Alsa is the git version (1.0.24).
The usb-snd-audio module is loaded with nrpacks=1
Jack settings are realtime, frames/period=256, SampleRate=48000,
Periods Buffer=3.
The USB Controller is the dreaded EHCI USB Controller: Intel
Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller
(rev 05)
But the soundcard I'm usins is USB2, not USB 1.
I have tried a lot of things already, but I'm really ready to restart
the investigation from scratch and to provide any information!

Maybe the USB bus is using the same IRQ as your graphic card or
another active device ?
cat /proc/interrupts
Try to plug the device in a different usb-connector.
AFAIK, there is no other way to change the used interrupt, if the bios
doesn't support changing it.
Some cards support both, usb1.1 and usb2.0.
I wonder myself, how to find out, which mode is being used.

Hello Aurélien,
Afaik this doesn't matter, both USB2 and USB1 cards have issues when
used with full duplex on this USB controller or this Rate Matching hub
thing. But maybe this needs some digging in old mails/forum threads, I
could be wrong on this.
