it's a nice tune. I feel summer in the lightness of the tone. Before the
praise though... The bass might need some sonic care. In the beginning
it sounds unproportionally loud. Allthough it seems a little mid heavy,
considering the arrangement it's not necessary to change that
drastically. But it also sounds little noisy here and there. Picking,
changing fingers,... A tad more attack wouldn't hurt, but again is just
a question of preference.
Now, having brutally slogged the bass, there is much more positive to be
said about this piece. The arrangement is very pleasant. A good
composition of all the frequency bands with enough room to spare in most
of them. The percussion and arpeggio sounds are beside the ordinary and
really caught and held my attention. You ended with a nice turn of
phrase there. :) Overall, there is a swift, light-hearted flow.

I like a lot that kind of bass. That kind of bass and drums/percs
makes a tune. Who needs anything else ? :)

Thanks. It might be that because of the tone of the acoustic bass
guitar there's so much to add and so it makes for an arrangement that
is light. The acoustic guitar, with the delay tracks takes care of
filling the harmonies. Anything else must almost be upwards to this.
I'll see about using that approach later on, while taking care of not
putting the bass too far away. Here it might be a bit on the loud
side, and it is noisy as the microphone (no pickup or transponder)
picked up a bit of everything.

I agree that at first the bass sounds like it might overpower,
but then makes sense as the song progresses.
I like the acoustic guitars, nice touch, good playing.
For some reason it feels like at some point some pleasant
female vocals should come in, perhaps just some light
backing choruses or oohs and aahs.

No, it's very much in the same LUFS range, same LU. Thanks for the
comments. I also like much better. It is such a bright song. Made by
a guy usually not-so-bright and more sombre. I hope he'll be doing more
in that vein :)
As a sidenote I got the linVST working with wine-staging and as a
result of that, there are some Voxengo plugins at the mastering stage,
like a dynamic EQ for instance.

Version # 3: the previously added kick drum was replaced by the Pearl
kicks # 1 to 4 from the AVL drumkit and the dynamics were relaxed. This
kick drum is much deeper. This is the 2nd time ever I add to a drum
track with samples. Last time I did not spend that much time finding a
suitable kick. This time around Glen has proposed the AVL drumkit
that's part of AV Linux so why not give it a try. Between the Ludwig
and the Pearl I found that the latter was less heavy and adapted better
to the dynamics.

If a certain hesitation at bringing the kick too forward, especially
one that's fatter, since the bass part was not created with that in
mind. At this point I do not want to redo the bass, and I do not want

I also like much more that mix BUT... it has flaws. I listen to it
again and the synth parts are way too underneath. Doing what I did,
adding the kick and just touching up a tad the bass (using a new
plugin ! oh no) affected the whole mix. To my ears there's way too
much bass now.
So I'll rework it and post an update.

So this will now be the, ahem, 'final' version of the piece. The idea
of having a new kick was a very good one. I'm glad I tried it. Might
not be as loud as it could but then I did not want to redo the playing
of any other instrument to go along with a more pronounced kick.
