Hi,
I want to listen to a song of Jimmy Hendrix carefully to uncover his cords
and tabs and play a long with him eventually.
How can I change the tempo of a song?
And if I want to repeat a particular part of a song, can I cut that part out
of the song with audacity, or what is the best way to do this?
Further tips are welcome.

Use
Audacity's Change Tempo tool.
Check out the Audacity instructional videos on YouTube.
Transcribe! also does an excellent job of tempo change in realtime.
Snd includes a good tempo shifter.

Thanks, I had to select the audio file in audacity and then effects > change
tempo.
Is there also such a tool in ardour?

Sonic Visualiser (http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/) is quite well
suited to this. It can loop sections, slow them down, show a detailed
pitch representation in a spectrogram, and can run plugins to extract
and display various other sorts of information.
