I upgraded to a Delta 1010 over the weekend (from a M-Audio 2496).
Everything works fine (didn't even need to re-install any drivers)
except that, with envy24control, the digital mixer doesn't work, when I
select it for output there is nothing going to my monitors. SPDIF in and
PCM out all work.

New subject: [linux-audio-user] Midi questions
I don't mean to start a flame or anything but I'm planning on purchasing
a midi card to accompany my STAudio envy24 card. I'm not too sure of
its MIDI capabilities.
I would like to purchase a cheap midi controller keyboard and a nice
MIDI card that will enable me a plethora of high quality sounds and
emulations. Sequencer type stuff without the sequencer.
Can this be done?

MIDI is just a transport protocol, it just sends and
receives data. The quality of the sounds you produce
depends on the equipment in your MIDI network.

M-Audio midisport interfaces might be worth looking into -- they are USB
devices and are supported under ALSA (I didn't even see the STAudio card
listed on the ALSA site).
You'll need a synthesizer and/or sample engine to produce sound in
response to MIDI events coming from the keyboard. MIDI on its own does
not produce any sound.

The SBLive card might be a good solution. It includes an on-board
hardware synthesizer (the EMU10k1) into which you'll load the soundfonts
of your choice. You'll need to get a MIDI adapter cable for the card for
your keyboard, then you can play the card's synth with the MIDI keyboard.
The Audigy systems are said to be good too but I haven't tried one yet.
Both the Live and Audigy are well-supported by ALSA.

I've been looking at the same thing, but I'm having trouble
determining which of the Audigy series is supported by ALSA. The ALSA
docs do not seem to be updated as frequently as one would hope. I've
read on this list and others that certain Audigy cards work, and some
do not.
Can anyone on the list speak to this?

People having trouble with vz bouncing email to me should add the word
'online' between the 'verizon', and the dot which bypasses vz's

Well, I have an STAudio DSP24 with ADC&DAC 3000 I/O box, so i
think i can say something here.
It took my quite a few trials to figure out what it
takes for midi to work. Eventually I could connect
a MIDI keyboard to the I/O box and used fluidsynth and some
midi soundfonts I'd downloaded to play sounds
from the keyboard.
I'd tell you more but I nuked my old system and
had to rebuild.... Be very very careful upgrading
a Debian-based system if the upgrade involves
C libraries (glibc).
I'd just advise you to look at the various
midi-on-linux tutorials and make some trials and
errors.

Probably none of this is your problem but I'll try anyway. In the
Monitor Mixer tab, make sure that the mute buttons are not pressed.
Make sure that the sliders are raised. For PCM Out 1 and 2 I raise the
left slider on 1 and the right slider on 2.
