New subject: [linux-audio-user] Recording with ardour - mono/stereo
Hello,
Finally audio on Linux has convinced me; thanks to my DeMuDi 1.2.0 !
So just for the curious, I've setup a strong soundsystem in order to make
some Dub.
On Fluxbox I use my 4 desktops :
on the first one I have TerminatorX (to simulate tape or vinyl rewinded)
it is the audio source that I inject in ams that plays the rôle of
pre-amp/crossover it is working quite strongly and it is on the second
desktop where I disconstruct the sound for the Dub. On the third desktop I
have Qsynth connected to my midi keyboard to play some chords (riddim in
dub jargon). On the fourth desktop I have ardour that centralise all the
stuff :
ams, qsynth and my Roland TB303 which is routed directly by the line in.
The output of ardour is routed to the Meterbridge.
So in ardour, thats the subject of my post, I have for the moment 4 tracks :
Master (stereo)
AMS (stereo)
TB303 (Stereo/mono ???? I created a mono track)
QSynth (stereo)
when I look in JackC i see that the 2 capture channel of my sound card are
connected to the lonnely TB303 in, but I have two TB303 out !!?? I must
say that I have added "stereo" effects on the TB303 track
when I play live no problem, but if I want to record, all the other tracks
can be recorded but not the TB303.
Ardour doesn't allow to record a such "hybrid" setting ? Or this is a
logical behavior ? anybody could point me ?

PS : the lonely bad thing about having such setting on linux, is that I
must open all the stuff each time I want to access the soundsystem :-(
and reconnect client that use a pid number to identify them (like the
meterbridge)

Hi,
many clients [including meterbridge] have the option of passing the jack
name to it via commandline:
meterbridge -t dpm x x x x -n meterbridge4
as an example (this will always show up as "meterbridge4" and thus can be
easily connected automatically.
ah and btw: ardour itself also has a meterbridge :)

It looks like exactly what I would need. But without jack support it's
almost completely useless to me. Guess that's a humble feature request.

Great, best tuner there is. Very good note recognition, two "interfaces"
to look at and tune to. Turned out I pretty soon started to use the
"Error history", with strings it's enlightening. Thank you.
* On startup fmit says "JACK: format = 16 bits Mono". The alsa backend
in jackd is initialized with "creating alsa driver [...] 32bit". Does
that mean the 32-bit frame that gets data from a 24-bit-device is
truncated somewhere? In fmit?
* Threshold for note recognition seems to be at about -40dbFS. E1 has
energy above that much longer than E3 of course. So I get x seconds for
E1 and about 1/6th of x seconds for E3. Setting "Volume threshold" in
the configure dialog from 1% (default) to 0% renders quirky results. I
don't understand "Components threshold". Would have tried but ... see
below. Can there be something done about this?
* Changing things in "Configure", saving and ok'ing crashes fmit. This
is with a 'make features="enable-gui enable-debug" configure', is
"enable-debug" the right argument here? INSTALL is a bit unclear about
that.

I switch volume treshold to per
thousands. It maybe help you, I hope. I dont
see what I can do more, except switch to per ten thousands or more :P
"Components threshold" is a bit difficult to explain without explain the whole
note recognition algorithm. I will document all theses things on the website
of my other project

the algo is not completely finished, so I'll not comment this immediatly, but
I'll do it ... one day ;) leave it as it is. (In your case of db treshold, it
wont help you).

I got this bug too, but now, it disapears, tell me if you can get it back

the next version.
'enable-gui' was an example !
I modified the INSTALL file, the '$make configure' command interface and the
developer-doc page on the website, I hope it's clearer.

requested ccgnu2-config script not found
Where is ccgnu2-config supposed to come from?

Wolfgang> On a suse box it's in "CommonC++-devel".
Thanks, on Debian it seems to be libcommoncpp2-dev. I don't know why
"apt-cache search" didn't tell me that.

Now I don't have any errors on either "make configure" or "make
check", but when I run make, I get:

make: *** [ConfigForm.h] Error 127

There is a /usr/bin/uic, but running make configure and make with
prefix=/usr doesn't seem to help.
The "prefix=/whatever" is about where to install stuff later on.
"/usr/bin/uic" should be a link to
"/usr/lib/<your-qt-version>/bin/uic"
For compiling qt stuff you need $QTDIR that points to your qt
installation.
I have "export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt3" in my .bashrc. It gets exported when
you log in or when you say
$ . .bashrc
in your bash. Don't know whether fmit will be happy with qt2 though.
