I've seen several messages describe audacity usage with jack. I searched
for a package like this and also looked at the source doc to see if I
could build it in. I don't see anything. Do I need to build audacity
with the portaudio=v19 switch to obtain it? Or, is audacity even jack aware?

The only sound editor I know to _work_ with jack is
https://gna.org/projects/mhwaveedit/
All others declare jack support only.

rezound works with jack ok. At least, I have used it with no problem.

Davy Durham knows about long-standing problems in jack-recordings.
He told about ReZound architecture redesigning to work with jack well.

Something like that, I think you need portaudio v19 and a CVS checkout
of audacity. I once got this working but I don't remember the details.

You have to rebuild audacity with the latest portaudio v19 snpashot
(unpack it in audacity source directory and rename it after the name
used in this directory -i don't remember) then:
./configure --with-portaudio=v19 --without-portmixer && make

You have to rebuild audacity with the latest portaudio v19 snpashot
(unpack it in audacity source directory and rename it after the name
used in this directory -i don't remember) then:
./configure --with-portaudio=v19 --without-portmixer && make

Woo! Thanks for posting this. Finally got sound coming out of Audacity
through Jack. It's my favourite sound editor but I'm only running Jack
enabled apps so this had been stopping me using it.
