Hi,
i try to build Ceres0.49. It seems to me that it can build on a recent distro like
Ubuntu10.04.
However i'm stuck. I get this output.
Can someone give me a hint on how to proceed?
Have you looked at the INSTALL file? In that file there
is a list of packages needed for Fedora. This list is probably
quite similar to the packages you need for Ubuntu.

Doesn't matter. Ceres uses gtk1, not gtk2.

official Ubuntu repos no longer maintain libgtk1-2 development packages.
Other required packages may face the same fate. Too bad, it's a unique
program.
It does need updated to contemporary versions of some of its required
toolkits. Probably a lot of work. :(

It does need updated to contemporary versions of some of its required

Really old stuff is included with ceres. I didn't think gtk1 was
that old yet. If that happens I guess I need to include gtk1 as well.

Nearly there for me (Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit)
The files config.sub and config.guess in the glib
package are too old. I'm not at my build machine now
so it's very inconvenient to fix it right now, but
I'll do it tomorrow morning.
You can also fix it yourself by finding more
updated config.sub and config.guess files and
replace the old ones in src/packages/glib-1.2.10.tar.gz.

i copied config.guess and config.sub from the package autotools-dev 20090611
and replaced those in ceres0.53/src/packages/glib-1.2.10.
But when i "make" i notice the old config files are put back in again. So i
get the same error as before. But i think i am not going about it the right
way. I have to put them in libglade-0.17.tar.gz right?
I'll wait till tomorrow :)

Oh yea, I see now, my libgtk1.2-dev and libglib1.2-dev is a relict, here
because I run my system long time now, but indeed it isn't available in
debian/sid any more, but, it didn't hurt to be there. It was never
necessary to remove it during upgrade.
So here is a description from a ubuntu user of what he do to get
libgtk1.2 and friends on ubuntu 10.4 :

New subject: ceres
Hi Kjetil,
Ceres 0.56 compiles cleanly and runs well on my Ubuntu 10.04 system
(32-bit).
I've customized the file at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/Ceres.ad but
none of my changes take effect. Is this file actually doing anything ?
Is there another location Ceres looks for its app resource file ? I have
a color configuration I'd like to use.
