I haven't come across anything before, but has anyone come across a
matrix mixer, either in plugin or standalone form for Linux? Something
similar to the matrix mixer objects in AudioMulch or the Acousmodule
VSTs. I am aware of a couple of examples in PD, and googling brings up
links to SuperCollider emails, but I would rather a more ready made
approach if possible.

So far -- only in FFADO's mixer for DICE-based audio interfaces :)

That'd be great if I had one!
I can probably make-do in PD by calling jack_connect and disconnect
from an existing matrix UI I've been working on. It seems kind of
hackish to me though. Was just wondering if there are any other
options out there.

Hi Arnold,
No need for shame surely. I'm familiar with Jackmix and actually had
another look at it during my search, but It's not really what I'm
looking for. The closest thing I've found is the audio connections
manager in Ardour 3. However, that is not midi controllable, which is
what I really need as I want to be able to reroute connections on the
fly with a launchpad. For now, the best solution I can come up with is
using pd to script jack_connect/jack_disconnect.

Hmm I haven't looked to closely at it, but is this a case where non-mixer,
maybe multiple copies of it running, would be an appropriate solution?
Honestly don't know what it is capable of.

I think he is looking for a crosspoint audio switcher rather than a mixer.
It could almost be done in script with commandline jack control. The
switching doesn't have to be that fast. Effectively what is happening with
PD

The only Ardour based project I know of is Ayyi/Ardourd

Hi,
The AudioMulch matrix mixer is far more than just connect / disconnect
though. The controllable fade time is a useful and powerful feature.
[OT] I have to say AudioMulch is the one piece of software I miss from
my Windows days!

I could probably just run Audiomulch under wine, as I still have a
license. I'd rather avoid adding wine to the mix if possible though.
I really like the Acousmodules Accumatrix as well, as it also has
independent gains for each switch in a 16x16 matrix. But again, I
don't really want to introduce windows binaries into the system.
Lorenzo's work looks interesting. Ideally, something like that as an
LV2 plugin is the tool I'm after.
That being said, I've set up PureData to work with two Launchpads
acting as an 8*16 matrix controller and it so far is working
acceptably with jack_connect and jack_disconnect.
