We are pleased to announce the release of Yoshimi V1.3.6
Principal features for this release are the introduction of controls from the
command line, covering many setup options, as well as extensive
root/bank/instrument management. Some of these new controls are also available
to MIDI via new NRPNs.
Vector control has been extended so that there are four independent 'features'
that each axis can control,
ALSA audio has had a makeover, and will now work at your sound card's best bit
depth - not just 16 bit (as it used to be).
In the 'examples' directory there is a complete song set, 'OutThere.mid'
and
'OutThere.xmz'. Together these produce a fairly complex 12 part tune that makes
Yoshimi work quite hard.
More information on these and other features are in the 'doc' directory.
Yoshimi source code can be obtained either from:

The reflex was that they'd be detected at the configuration stage.
It complied and installs now, great. The first start only gave a
splashscreen, nothing else. Killing the process and restarting it now
gives the main user interface... let's see if a sound comes out... yep,
it works. Great. Are there any resources out there that provides
other sounds ?

Depending on whether you installed, or ran from userland you should have sets of
banks (bank root dirs) in either or both:
/usr/local/share/yoshimi/banks/
/home/{userpath}/yoshimi-1.3.6/banks/
Yoshimi should have looked for these at first start. If not, from the main
window go to 'Instrument->Show Root Paths' and add them manually.
You'll find banks and instruments for both Yoshi and Zyn (they work on both)
dotted around the 'net :)
There is a scattering of usage notes in 'doc' that we try to keep up-to-date :?

have the virtual keyboard active, triggered by the computer keyboard, no
matter where the mouse is. It would make it possible to turn a knob
while producing the sound. As compared to reaching out for one of the
MIDI keyboards. Short of getting a Korg nanoKeyboard.
