ok, i think i should spend some more time trying to make this work, but
i am going to have to throw some more hardware into the ring to do it.
currently, i have 768Mb RAM, which can easily get tight for a multitrack
session at better-than-CD sr and/or resolution. it is not uncommon for
me to be working on 20 tracks with an uninterrupted length of 30 or 40
minutes. this is really not currently feasible in RAM.
