Hello list,
I have to build an audio computer running PD for an installation. Since
I am not too familiar with actual hardware issues, I would like to ask,
if there are any restrictions or aspects to kepp in mind concerning
certain processor types, motherboards, graphic cards, HDs (SATA) ...
I will use a Hammerfall HDSP 9652 and the JAD-Distribution on a
32bit-architecture

I built two machines last year with these hardware specs:
For the JAD box:
Gigabyte mobo w. AMD64 3800+
nVidia GeForce 7300GS w. 256 MB VRAM
Antec case
Zalman CPU fan
200 GB SATA HD
For the 64 Studio box:
Gigabyte mobo w. AMD64 3200+
nVidia GeForce 7600GS w. 512 MB VRAM (fanless)
Antec case
Zalman CPU fan
320 GB SATA HD
If quiet isn't a concern you can skip the Zalman fans and the Antec cases.

We built 8 machines in DISIS this past year as part of the sustainable
computing project which are as silent as they can possibly get (currently
loudest noise emanating are HDs spinning idly as we have not put any
insulation around the HDs):
Core 2 Duo 2.67 with Scythe Ninja sink
Nvidia 7600 or 8600GT 512MB RAM (fanless)
2GB RAM
Silentmaxx fanless 400W PSU
Thermaltake Case
ASUS P5B Deluxe
Basically, there is only one single 120mm fan in the machine attached to the
CPU cooler running at <1200 RPM (we tested it also at 800 RPM without any
stability issues).
Machines run Ubuntu Studio.

Re Forwarded to the list, I really hope that gmail takes out the html it
inserted, I have having trouble getting it completely removed. If anyone
has problems with html in this can you reply off list to me?
Dave any reccomendations for rackmount enclosures?
Funnily enough I am looking at the exact same project to take on the road
with me when I travel as I fell in love with pd's flexibility when I forced
myself to learn it to do a variety of custom effects on live channels last
year.
Except I am loking at an RME HDSP 9632 since that is what I already have;)
Also Dave were those fanless video cards, and what size enclosures did you
use?

Why don't you use gmails option to send plain-text???
